Lumenwerx teams up with architecture firm Mahlum to illuminate their own studio, with sustainably certifiable results.
When architecture firm Mahlum decided to transform a 1930s timber-frame building into their new studio, they had more than great design in mind. An additional goal was achieving Living Building Challenge (LBC) certification, as a sign of the firm’s commitment to material transparency. This included vying for LBC Materials Petal certification, which meant all components needed to be free of LBC Red List chemicals, including lighting fixtures.
Working with lighting designer Biella Lighting Design, Lumenwerx helped create a lighting plan based on our Squero collection, providing documentation and the transparency needed to achieve certification goals. Architecturally, Squero’s crisp, linear profile also aligned perfectly with the updated studio’s warm, elegant environment.
Throughout the studio, Squero luminaires offer visual comfort, along with illumination that enhances the natural warmth of the building’s exposed timber structure. The collection’s adaptability also allowed it to be installed on various ceiling types, while maintaining clarity and consistency throughout the space.
Thanks to our material transparency, technical support and of course, our Squero luminaires, Mahlum’s project got the cohesive lighting system they needed, with the transparency they wanted to achieve their goals, a definite win/win for the forward-thinking firm.
