Learn how embedded Via luminaires create serene space inside a Harlem library branch in this project completed with Michielli + Wyetzner Architects.

At the Macomb’s Bridge Library in NYC, light plays a vital role in creating an inviting community space, nestled within a historic building in Harlem. To help set the stage for inspiration, Lumenwerx worked with Michielli + Wyetzner Architects to develop a comprehensive lighting plan to brighten all 3,500 square feet of this New York Public Library branch.

Featuring our Via luminaires, the plan sought to integrate fixtures seamlessly into an interior design scheme that offers visitors a pleasant balance of colors, textures and materials. Since the space is a library, light needed to be contextual, creating areas for reading and flowthrough, while helping create an overall feeling of warmth and relaxation.

Thanks to the unity of the interior design and lighting plan, the atmosphere inside the finished library is warm, dynamic and open. Whether in the Adult Reading Room, Children’s Room, or larger Community Room, the configuration of Via luminaires follows the architectural rhythm of the site, thoughtfully embedded within the ceiling plane to accentuate both form and function.

The end result is a cohesive lighting installation that serves to draw visitors through the space, invite them to grab a book, and settle in for a comfortable read. The Macomb’s Bridge Library serves as a living testament to how illuminating with intention can elevate architecture, help create serene spaces, and enhance the architect’s vision.
