Lumenwerx contributes to an award-winning lighting installation at Nebraska’s Bone Creek Museum.
Illuminating a history museum is always about striking the balance between honoring the past and creating a modern feel. So, when David City Nebraska’s Bone Creek Museum relocated to a historic Ford assembly shop, lighting would play a central role in helping the past come to vibrant life.
Working closely with CMBA Architects, Lumenwerx helped craft a lighting environment to support the museum’s mission: to connect people to the land through art. Based on our Pivot Track and complementary Pivot Luminaires, we helped construct a highly coordinated lighting system that highlights the museum’s collection and helped the project win a Best Lighting Design award from the Association of Builders and Contractors (NE & SD).
The museum’s transformation was ambitious. The architectural design preserved the heritage building’s architectural character while modernizing galleries, classrooms, and a small theatre. This blend of history and contemporary purpose required a lighting plan that was architecturally unobtrusive, precise, and flexible enough to illuminate everything from historical artifacts to large-scale artworks.
Thanks to the variety of fixtures that work with the Pivot system, including our Pivot Pendant and Pivot Dot, this was easily achievable. The award-winning installation unifies the visual language of the museum and helps create a sense of continuity for visitors as they move from gallery to gallery. Bone Creek is a lasting example of the power of light to illuminate space and elevate the way people encounter history and art.
