A holistic approach to lighting keeps pace with an ambitious vision across 80,000 sq/ft at Komatsu’s Chicago office.

At Komatsu’s Chicago headquarters, a sweeping 80,000-square-foot office transformation called for a lighting strategy that could keep pace with the company’s ambitious vision and illuminate everything from private offices to workstations and cozy collaborative nooks. Working alongside the design team, Lumenwerx structured a holistic lighting approach to enhance both function and atmosphere across the four-floor office.

To support the variety of spaces and uses, our team tailored an approach that balances precise task lighting with soft ambient illumination. In open office areas, Mikro linear pendants are arranged in clean rows above desks, delivering comfortable, focused light without visual clutter.

Ambient lighting also plays an important role in maintaining visual cohesion throughout. Voila 2 Downlight deliver consistent overhead illumination, creating a bright, welcoming environment across open zones. As a complement, Via 2 linear fixtures trace the edges of ceilings and walls, subtly defining pathways and enhancing architectural lines in the reception area and high-traffic corridors.

For Komatsu, the result is a visually refined, high-performance workplace where lighting supports day-to-day staff needs while reinforcing the company’s forward-thinking brand identity. Lighting serves as a counterpoint to the sleek interior design and stylish furniture, reinforcing spatial clarity and cohesion–exactly what you’d expect from a precision manufacturing company.
