With the Via collection, Lumenwerx is helping brighten the path for Montreal commuters, as the REM begins to take shape.

Montreal’s new commuter railway, the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) offers a bold step forward in the city’s transportation evolution. Built by CDPQ Infra, the REM will stretch for 67 kilometers, linking numerous neighborhoods with 26 new stops that connect to the existing metro system, train and bus networks.

With stations built around a unified design scheme featuring the natural tones of wood and glass, a lighting solution was needed to complement the warmth of the materials and ensure effective wayfinding. Working closely with the architects and designers, Lumenwerx devised a solution based on our Via collection, selected for its ability to be customized to fit with station architecture.

To help bring the network of stations to life, our team recommended Via 4 luminaires. These offer direct, indirect, direct/indirect, and asymmetric distributions, making them ideal for the diverse zones within each of the stations.

Whether installed on a concourse or platform, the low UGR (Unified Glare Rating) of the Via 4 ensures a comfortable illumination that enhances visual clarity without overpowering site architecture. The result is a cohesive visual experience to guide passengers through the environment, with an understated aesthetic that integrates cleanly into the linear geometry of the stations.

By pairing thoughtful design with advanced lumen technology, our team helped shape an atmosphere reflective of the REM’s overall purpose of connection and motion. As Montrealers embark on a new chapter of regional transportation, we’re proud to have helped light the way forward.
