Together with Lubor Trubka Associates Architects, we provided lighting for the all-timber Tsleil-Waututh Nation Administration & Health Centre.
A marvel of sustainable timber construction, the Tsleil-Waututh Nation Administration & Health Centre serves as the heart of British Columbia’s Tsleil-Waututh First Nation. A gathering place for governance, healthcare and community engagement, designed by Lubor Trubka Associates Architects, the building spans 31,000 square feet, envisioned as a structure where light communicates harmony with the natural world.
To help execute this vision, Lumenwerx was brought on to develop a lighting scheme that would complement the building’s unique wave-like ceiling without overpowering natural sources of light. Via luminaires, with their slim linear profile, were chosen for their ability to align with the exposed wooden beams, creating soft, continuous lines of illumination that echo the form and flow of the roof. For visitors, the result is an overall sense of calm uniformity, and balance.
Thanks to the flexibility of the Via collection, light serves as a unifying element throughout the building, from council chamber offices to community space, and health facilities. The luminaires not only deliver comfortable, high-performance illumination, but also preserve the architectural integrity of the space.
For the Lumenwerx team, contributing to this landmark project was about more than providing lighting. It provided an opportunity to help translate a cultural story into a dynamic environment of light and natural materials–a true expression of how collaboration between architecture and illumination can give form to a living spirit.
