A layered lighting strategy balances heritage character with modern clinical performance.

At Augusta ENT, lighting plays a central role in transforming a historic industrial building into a modern medical environment. Set within a historic mill, this expansive healthcare centre offers an impressive juxtaposition between the exposed timber and brick of yesteryear and the functionality of a forward-thinking clinic. To achieve the right balance, Lumenwerx partnered with the design team to develop a strategy that dovetails the building’s charming structure with the clinic’s operational needs.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by Via 4 recessed luminaires embedded in the ceiling. These provide a bright, welcoming glow in the waiting room and reception areas, delivering ample illumination with comfortable, low glare that complements the abundant natural light filtering through the building’s large windows.

As visitors move from the waiting area through circulation spaces, Via Perimeter recessed luminaires define architectural edges and aid in wayfinding. Designed to create a continuous line of illumination at the wall-ceiling intersection, this flexible system delivers soft, even light from the perimeter, guiding movement without disrupting the architectural integrity of the historic space.

Together, these two Via systems work in tandem to create a coordinated, detail-driven approach where light performs a critical function while adding subtle, cohesive framing within the clinical environment. The result feels clear, comfortable, and connected to both the building’s historic and contemporary contexts. Just what the Dr. ordered.
