A performance-driven lighting strategy for BMW’s North American Headquarters

For a brand as iconic as BMW, the interior lighting plan for its new North American headquarters needed to be as forward-thinking and nuanced as the vehicles it builds. Working closely with Francis Cauffman Architects and The Lighting Practice, Lumenwerx delivered a low-glare, high-contrast lighting toolkit that supports the project’s architectural ambitions while meeting BMW’s exacting standards.

Entering the building, visitors are immediately welcomed by an entry sequence accentuated by Via Wet recessed luminaires that open onto a wide “Main Street” corridor. Here, crisscrossing linear Via 3 recessed fixtures create a dynamic sense of movement while illuminating the vehicles on display. Along the walls and throughout adjacent hallways, Via Perimeter fixtures establish crisp lines of light, reinforcing the refined, technical aesthetic synonymous with the legendary automotive brand.

Throughout social zones and collaborative spaces, Squero recessed, Squero Pendant, and Squero Combinations recessed fixtures introduce layered illumination that supports flexibility and comfort. In the event spaces and staff café, Cluster Pendant 1 x 5 create a welcoming glow beneath a slatted ceiling canopy.

Thanks to integrated performance and seamless detailing, we’re proud of how our luminaires helped transform this 145,000 sq. ft. space into a cohesive, future-ready workplace. The project perfectly encapsulates how thoughtful lighting can drive performance and shift gears as people explore and interact within carefully engineered interior environments.
