Lumenwerx joins forces with project architects to bring light and vitality to an expanded elementary school.
At Christ-Roi Elementary School in Montreal’s Ahuntsic neighbourhood, light plays a key role in helping shape the character, functionality and warmth of the learning environment. Expanded to nearly double its size by the BGLA + Smith Vigeant consortium, Lumenwerx was brought on to develop the lighting plan that would achieve the school’s goals and create spaces as bright and joyful as the students who will use them.
The renovation, which added new classrooms, a kindergarten room, multipurpose spaces, a daycare and full-sized gym, was designed to strengthen connections between students and their surroundings. Working with both our Via and Pop collections, Lumenwerx developed a system that would facilitate that connection and support the project’s guiding principles of active design, transparency, and color.
With their continuous lines, our Via luminaires deliver clean generous illumination in high traffic areas, reinforcing the feeling of openness and movement. Thanks to seamless runs, the fixtures highlight the architectural flow of the building, serving to comfortably guide students from space to space.
Pop luminaires, on the other hand, with their bright vivid finishes and high output, add a colorful layer of personality to shared spaces including the gym and classrooms. Integrated together, these two collections help unify the school’s new and existing spaces, creating a cohesive visual language that supports day to day life at the school. At Christ-Roi Elementary, school is definitely in.
