Lumenwerx shines a light on work and wellness at Enbridge’s Ottawa Operations Centre.

Enbridge’s Ottawa Operations Centre was envisioned as a high-performance workspace that could meet the needs of the company’s field workers, while hitting ambitious sustainability targets. Working with WalterFedy and lighting designer Dawn Brown, CLD, Lumenwerx helped bring that vision to life with a lighting strategy balancing energy efficiency, employee wellness, and environmental harmony.

Architecturally, the facility, designed to achieve net-zero carbon emissions, features open layouts, tall ceilings, and an abundance of natural light—a factor Enbridge saw as a top priority. The subsequent lighting scheme would involve a variety of complementary Lumenwerx collections selected to promote comfort, visual clarity, and energy efficiency.

Throughout the facility, luminaries were selected based on task and context. In larger open common areas, felt Acoustix lights and panels were installed to cut down on noise, while providing comfortable lighting for impromptu meetings and get-togethers. In shared workspaces, Aera Downlights and Rim Square pendants offered task lighting and overhead illumination, while complementing the contemporary design.

In each case, lighting was customized via integration with BIOS Lighting LED technology, to support circadian rhythms, boost mood and help enhance employee focus. With natural daylight being so important, the plan also features Lutron Quantum control for occupancy and daylight level adjustments to optimize savings through daylight harvesting and shade control.

The result is a state-of-the-art workplace where sustainability and human-centric design converge. Through close collaboration with the architects and lighting designer, Lumenwerx played a key role in helping Enbridge light the way to a more sustainable, and light-filled future.
